Kickstarter, April Bookish Happenings, and a Cookie Recipe (that is kind of sort of healthy)

Well, this is supposed to be my monthly FUN email. Unfortunately, I haven't had the funnest day. This morning, as I was pulling out of my parking spot at the gym, I scraped someone else's car while turning right out of the spot. Totally my fault. And totally stupid. In almost 47 years of life, I've never just randomly scraped a car in the parking lot. But today I did. And I bumped it hard enough to leave a dent in the bumper. Le sigh. The person wasn't there, so I took a bunch of pictures and waited a bit and then left them a note. They called later and insurance and blah blah first world problems, but not the greatest way to spend a morning.

Luckily, my sweet friend was hosting a May Day Lei Day lunch, so I got to go have a delicious meal and make candy leis for my kids. That WAS fun, thank goodness. Because sitting on my couch thinking about my bad morning would have been extra lame. My kids also really liked them!

Bookish News:

First of all, per my May tradition, I'll be celebrating my mother by donating 10% of all retail profits this month to the Huntsman Cancer Institute where Mom was treated for her brain tumor. So if you've ever wanted to buy something from me, now is the time.

If you'd like to read more about my mom, you can find some essays in my book Hugging Death: Essays on Motherhood and Saying Goodbye. It will be free from May 6th to 10th.

Psst... That chub in the plastic pants is me.

In addition to Mother's Day, May is also my birthday month! To celebrate that (okay, not really), my Kickstarter should be launching during my birthday week!

You can follow it HERE. It's shaping up really nicely! It's got a great cover, great character art, and a great story!

May Recipe:

It's gotten warmer here, which means it's time to enjoy a good smoothie.

This smoothie is about the only way I get my kids to eat spinach.

And it is delicious!

Green Banana Smoothie

1 banana (frozen)

1-2 handfuls spinach

1-2 C milk (enough to cover the banana in the blender--we use cow's milk, but I've used almond and coconut also and think any type would be delicious)

1 Tbsp peanut butter (optional)

1 1/2 tsp Nutella (optional, and it will make your smoothie more brown than green, but sooooo yummy, especially if people are hesitant to try this)

Add ingredients to the blender (banana, then spinach, then milk, but nut butters if using).

Blend until smooth.

Drink while cold!
