Inside Zone is the cornerstone of our run game. Everything hinges on it. It's versatile, allows us to get vertical and create double teams upfront, opens up our play-action game, is a go-to in short yardage, etc., etc...

We have three rules for IZ that we teach:

• Covered Playside = Flop & Drive

1st step is a flop step. Open play side at a 45, 2nd step squares hips and gets on track.

Aiming point the V of the Defensive Lineman's jersey.

• Covered Backside = Settle Punch

1st step is a quick up-and-down settle step.

2nd step - attack the middle of the defensive lineman vertically.

Aiming point is the play side number of the back side defensive lineman.

• Uncovered = Flop & check the hip of the next down lineman and climb. If there's no threat to the inside gap, climb to play side OL.
