What if cholesterol isn’t the bad guy?
Lets clear up a major myth that could be making things worse for your hormones — and your heart.
👉 Let’s talk about cholesterol.
You’ve probably heard the Cholesterol Hypothesis:
High LDL = higher heart disease risk = take statins and avoid cholesterol-rich foods.
But here’s the kicker — that theory has never been proven. In fact, studies show the opposite:
✅ Higher cholesterol (200–240) is actually linked to lower mortality and better heart health.
So what gives?
💡 Cholesterol is essential for:
- Producing estrogen, progesterone & testosterone
- Making vitamin D
- Building cells
- Repairing blood vessel damage
- Supporting energy production
During perimenopause and menopause, your hormones drop.
And since cholesterol is what your hormones are made from, low cholesterol = even lower hormones = more severe symptoms!!
So why is it linked to heart disease?
Because cholesterol is the band-aid, not the injury.
When toxins (like processed sugar, trans fats, or chemicals) damage your blood vessels, your body sends cholesterol to patch the injury — like a scab on a cut.
Your liver makes cholesterol (not your food).
Statins? They block your liver from making it, meaning your body can’t repair the damage properly.
The real issue?
It’s NOT cholesterol.
It’s the stuff that causes inflammation and injury in the first place:
- Processed sugar
- Toxins
- Bacteria in the blood
- Low omega-3s
There is a very simple test that looks at all of this and so much more!
We’ll break that all down in the next email. But for now, just know this:
Cholesterol isn’t the villain. It might just be the unsung hero of healthy hormones — and a smoother menopause transition.
Stay tuned!
