Faith & Life Lessons - May 28, 2023

Welcome to the May 28th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

The high point of this week was the weekend.

A couple of things rolled into each other to change how I had planned Saturday to run.

For some strange reason, I changed the plan on Friday for school pickup.

I decided to leave work, drive home, pick up the Mrs and we both head out to the school.

During the pick-up, a fellow parent made a passioned invitation for our family to join them on a 2-hour trip out of the city for Friday.

The endgame - we were going to be spending time with them at the beach near a property they were putting up.

Because my wife & I were together, it was easy for her to make the pitch at once and get a response.

We decided to take her up on the offer.

I daresay, it was worth the trip. The kids had a good time.

The beach was less crowded than the ones near us in the city and much cleaner.

We, the parents, came back tired.

But we are not complaining.

It's part of creating a community around us in a new country.

Things I Learnt

1 - Solutions in Your Network: Recall that I said I have been dealing with a couple of challenges at work over the past couple of weeks.

Well, solutions have been coming for a few of them.

And they have come within my network and existing resources.

And it hit me - the solutions to some of my everyday challenges may come from re-working existing resources I have and trusting in the current network of relationships I have.

It's simple and difficult.

2 - Leaving the Real Work Undone: During service on Sunday, God called my attention to something.

He said I wasn't investing well in a group I am leading.

I reflected and I understood.

I had been organising events and communicating with the group but I wasn't doing the first work.

The job of praying for the group.

No matter how much I invest in activities and events, the first and overarching responsibility is to cover them with prayer.

This helps me to serve them in a way that I can't do.

Letting God do things that only He can do in their lives.

Got to get back to my first job.

Postscript

May you not be distracted by the "doing" and forget the "praying". May you find encouragement knowing that God can do more with what you can do when you pray. Amen
