Faith & Life Lessons - May 7, 2023

Welcome to the May 7th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

I started Monday speaking at a virtual conference for work professionals.

My teaching focused on skills that would make them locally present and globally relevant.

It's a lot easier to speak about something that has become part of my life.

Someone said I spoke with a lot of energy.

This had to do with two things.

First, it's speaking from a part of me.

The second reason comes from many sessions of doing online church recordings during COVID.

One of the things I was told is that the energy levels projected when you are on screen are not the same energy that the viewers get.

For example, if you are on the camera projecting at energy levels of “10”, the viewer is probably receiving your talk or presentation at “6.5-7” levels.

I accounted for this in my preparation and delivery.

This is one of the reminders for me that I need to master any medium of message delivery I show up on.

It’s also one of the reasons I didn’t use any slides. It keeps attention on me and what I am saying.

The audience listens more, on the off chance, that they might miss something important.

I didn’t learn this all by myself. I got some good advice

And I’m still chasing good advice.

Things I Learnt

1-Be Comfortable Playing a Small Role: On May 1st, a collaborative book, I did with about 29 other writers across 5 continents was launched.

I shared it on social media for anyone interested in getting the book.

A while later, someone sent me a message - he wanted to know how we did it. Our book had peaked at #1 in Business systems & planning, #2 in Business Decision – Making and #3 in Business Project Management on Amazon.

It's the power of being a small part of something big. All 30 contributors shared it on our social media. The ripple effect was the result.

It was wonderful contributing to others and being a small piece in a bigger outcome.

It was great being on the update call before the book release and sharing the energy that everyone else brought into the whole project.

Being a small part of a big thing can be so refreshing.

When you get to work with people that can improve who you are.

2-When Makes Things More Challenging: Something happened during the week that reminded me of why God sometimes makes things more challenging.

This was something that my family & I had been on for a while.

We haven't gotten to the finish line but we hit a major success milestone during the week.

A milestone we celebrated because only God could have made it happen the way it did.

It could have been easier - if God wanted it to be.

But He made it more challenging so that it would be clear that it was His result.

I have learned not to complain when it gets a little tough or rough.

I try to discover who God was to me to be and how He wants me to see Him during the tough times.

I try to become better at being the person God wants me to be.

Postscript

May you use challenging times to see God as who He wants to be for you and work at becoming who He wants you to be in that season. Amen
