Welcome to the February 18th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week
I woke on Saturday morning with more time on my hands to pray longer than I usually did.
More time allows me to hear God call my attention to things I am not doing.
Things I shouldn’t have left undone.
Now I am restarting.
Getting myself back on the sawdust trail.
So I can create a kind of change and transformation.
In my life.
And in the lives of the people connected to me.
One day at a time.
Things I Learnt
1 - Investor vs Buyer Language: During the week, I was invited to a Startup Founders Roundtable.
No, it wasn’t a pitchfest. It was a learning space for startups to connect, share stories, and inspire each other.
So, why was I there?
I was there as someone with experience from Corporate work who could add to the conversation.
One of the business ideas on my table is a lady trying to start up a virtual marketplace for people to sell their old clothes still in good condition but not been worn.
During our discussion, she was trying to explain it as a business with a focus on sustainability and the environment.
That works as a good pitch for prospective investors who are focused on investing in sustainability-driven businesses.
Her market would struggle to embrace that.
A simpler message for the market would be this - you are sitting on potential money to do something special for yourself. The old clothes in your house may just be the cash you need.
You get the idea.
Yes, the story of sustainability would be something to build on. But first, get the traffic for the business.
Don’t mix the language for getting investors with the language for getting customers.
2 - Nurture Relationships: I met up with a former classmate this week. We did our first two years of undergraduate together.
I don’t think we ever spoke throughout.
Fast forward years later, our class connected via WhatsApp.
She had an initiative she led - and I volunteered to support it by giving my time to mentor the kids in it.
Later on, she made a trip to Senegal. My wife & I met up with her and had dinner together.
During the week, we met up as a result of being in the same country at the same time.
I shared one of the big goals I have for myself this year with her.
She gave me great insights and perspective.
The whole thing showed me the importance of nurturing every relationship.
You never know when value will come from them.
Postscript
May the joy of seeing others become better encourage you to keep investing in people. Amen.
