Faith & Life Lessons – August 25, 2024

image

Welcome to the August 25th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week.

One thing this week showed me is that I need to recalibrate my ideal week plan.

Why?

Because the demand for my time has increased.

I normally don’t tap out before the end of the week.

But it was interesting to notice that by Wednesday, I was hoping the next day was Friday not Thursday.

What do I need to do differently?

I need to increase my energy levels. How am I going to do that?

First, I’ll need to introduce more rest cycles within the day. I regularly get up from my desk and walk around. I’ll need to create more white-space moments - silence, breathing, quiet moments, and praying, more of them.

Next, I need to increase my physical activity. I’ll be restarting my exercises. Yes, I like dancing. It’s a flip between Salsa and Hip-hop. I have the videos to do both at home so I might be alternating.

This is an important season of life for me.

A season where I am preparing for another season.

An in-between season that has so much potential to be great.

I am committed to making it a great one

So help me God.

Things I Learnt

1 - Apologies When Necessary: On Friday, during a meeting with an external team, I laid in deep on someone on the other side.

The team had been brought in to be part of a great business opportunity.

Not with my company. My company was advising a third party and we had proposed them as the best partner for the opportunity.

They had just to walk in and make their bed. I briefed the senior members of the external team and they were already on the swing.

They were meant to carry the rest of their team along.

They invited me to speak to the other members of their team about the opportunity.

No problem about that.

The only problem was that during the meeting, one of the members of their team kept on bringing up why he thought the opportunity was a dud.

At a point, I laid it out “If you don’t want this opportunity, please say it and walk out. If you want it and you think there are land mines on the way, propose how you want it addressed in the structuring of the opportunity to the third party.”

After the meeting, I did a personal After Action Review (AAR). I think I said what I said in a more harsh tone.

I checked the profile of the guy who was plugging holes - he is in Risk Management. Most people with that background typically raise the problems without coming up with what they think needs to be done to address the problem.

I have no issues with raising problems. I just have an issue when you only raise problems without offering possible solutions to consider.

I decided to apologise for my “hard approach”.

Since it was during a group meeting, I didn’t think doing a one-on-one call was the way.

I sent an email to him and copied all the people invited to the meeting.

It doesn’t change my position about how they should address the opportunity.

However, I am not oblivious to knowing that my approach could have been done with a bit of tweaking.

Probably one of the effects of having an overwhelming week.

No excuse. I apologise.

2 - When God Speaks: On Sunday, I heard a clear word concerning an aspect of my life from God.

No, I wasn’t in Church.

I was driving and listening to a sermon either on Jon Tyson’s Church of the City New York podcast or John Mark Comer Teachings podcast.

But the word came strong enough to get my full attention.

It got enough of my attention to be a key aspect of my prayer walk in the evening every day this week,

I spent the week praying over the word.

But I noticed something else during the week.

I got to meet and speak with people who could help me move faster and further in the areas that God spoke to me about.

I don’t allude it to coincidences.

It simply means I have to pay attention and be ready to do the work that God’s word requires from me.

It’s Game, Set and Match.

I am rolling with the Word.

Working the Word.

Postscript

May you always be committed to doing the work that every vision you have requires to succeed. Amen
