Faith & Life Lessons – August 18, 2024

image

Welcome to the August 18th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week.

This was one week where I had to constantly re-calibrate the expectations I had for myself.

On Sunday, I wrote out the goals for the week.

Great plan. The only thing is that the week evolved differently.

As the week evolved, the demands for my ability and time changed.

The question was now - would I continue to push for the same targets?

I decided to pivot.

But not the way you might guess.

No, I’m not dropping the goals. I’m extending the time to reach the goals.

This is something I first heard from Coach Brooke Castille a while back.

Instead of changing the goals, change the time horizon to achieve the goal.

If a goal was rightly selected, it should motivate. Don’t lose the motivation by dropping the goal.

Momentum - the stuff that carries goals.

I’m keeping my momentum.

I’m keeping my goals.

Just extending the time.

Things I Learnt

1 - Be Bold to Ask: Recently I got an interesting request from one of the members of my sales team.

He came to me to ask if he could accompany me to any event I was invited to speak at.

His pitch was simple - “you might not have the time to market the company’s product one-on-one while on stage. I could be working the crowd to do that.”

Smart guy.

When I first resumed, he introduced himself to me and offered to provide any market information I needed at any time. All I had to do was just ask him.

I was invited to speak at a paid event over the weekend. I was allowed to bring a plus-one.

He was mine.

By the end of the evening, he connected with someone who would like to have us speak to a closed audience on real estate.

And with that, he has an opening in a market he would not have had if he did have the boldness to ask.

Ask me to accompany me in any public events I was speaking at.

A lesson I also picked up too.

2 - Recording the Steps to the Future: During a casual conversation with my business coach, our discussions went into the process adopted by a particular author.

One of the unique insights we picked up from him was how well he documents the steps on the road to achieving his goals.

He documents the steps and shares them publicly.

This is something I have not mastered.

Documenting every step of the way.

Yes, I’m different from him.

I am more of a storyteller so I typically weave the steps into a story - an adventure.

But if I document more, I’ll be able to get the full picture of the highs and lows in a story.

I started working on a framework to create a way to document my steps.

So it will be easy for others to learn from what I have been through.

Postscript

May you find wisdom in documenting the steps you are walking in to arrive at your big goals. Amen
