Faith & Life Lessons – August 17, 2025

image

Welcome to the August 17th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week.

I am much better now.

I even took some time off work to recover.

I hadn’t been this sick in a long time.

Well, I also haven’t worked consistently like I did over the past few weeks.

So, I guess my body was asking for a rest.

Good to be back.

Things I Learnt

1-Simplicity in Communication Creates Better Transformation: During my rest time, I invested time listening to training from someone who had been there at the beginning of my blogging and coaching practice journey.

His name is Jonathan Milligan.

Listening to him reminded me of why I chose a very simple approach to teaching and communicating. Simplicity makes information portable.

Portability increases the chances that people will practice what they have learnt.

Jonathan is a teacher at heart. That’s probably why I resonate with him.

It’s not about showing off knowledge. It’s about making sure people can make their lives better after being with you.

Thanks for the reminder, Jonathan.

It’s great to be in good company.

2-A Long Life of Obedience: A bit of reminiscing here. I was listening to someone preach on progress in spiritual life. It’s never been about the big burst of power or excitement.

It’s the slow, continuous climb to the summit.

Yes, not something big, but rather small daily practices that drive growth.

I recall a few years back when I did the study of the Song of Ascents. These are 15 psalms (120-134) which the Israelites sing on their pilgrimage to the temple in Jerusalem. Instead of 1 song, 15 songs that mark different stages on the journey.

And that is what our spiritual walk is - a journey.

A journey that is a long life of obedience in the same direction.

Eugene Peterson calls it “A Long Obedience in the Same Direction” (That’s the title of his book on the matter).

Back to my “simple daily practice that drives growth”.

I’d like to give you a short reminder on these. I’d like to share 8 short videos (about 3-4 minutes each).

You can access it here (no sign-ups, just click and watch)

I hope they remind you of what is important and how to live it.

Postscript

May you live a long life of obedience to God, so you finish your journey well. Amen
