Welcome to the August 3rd edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week.
I started this week the practice of making the things I need to do to achieve God’s dream for me first.
Maybe not the first thing in the day. But first among priorities, once I make time
Here is my report card
I did it successfully 40% of the time.
Some days I hit it, other days I go back to old familiar ways
Not perfect, but a start. A start in the right direction.
I will keep pushing myself.
Why?
Because this is how I mix my faith with action to create the result God wants for me
In this season of life
Things I Learnt
1. The Grass is Greener on the Other Side: During the week, my team was working on a couple of presentations for a strategic session.
Another team was working on the last presentation. Their presentation was more about numbers.
A thought rang through my team. “Our presentations are a lot harder work. The other team has an easier job doing a numbers presentation.”
Well, during the week, I ran into one of the leads working on the numbers-based presentation. She remarked that they thought my team had the easier assignment, doing presentations that were not numbers-driven.
I didn’t try to argue with her.
Why?
Because it is human nature to comfort ourselves with visions of something better over the fence.
The grass is always greener on the other side.
The important thing is to show every day, face down and fully committed to doing what is necessary to get the job done.
No excuses.
Just results.
2. The Praise Beyond Me: This is not a rant. This is how I am protecting my attention so I can keep my focus on God.
I needed to set that context before you read what I write next.
During service in church today, there was a period where the choir was brought on to lead us in special praise and worship to celebrate the new month.
It was a sudden shock to me to see a lot of people around me bring out their phones and record themselves dancing & singing.
Why was I shocked?
It felt like God was not our focus - having a good time was.
I was not going to be in that boat.
So, I closed my eyes and continued worshiping God, keeping my attention on Him.
And not the many cameras that were recording beside me.
I have trained myself and keep training myself to be better at this.
Better at focusing on God
Even when noise and distractions surround me.
God is worthy of my full attention.
Postscript
May you master the discipline of ignoring distractions and noise so you focus on the most important matter at hand. Amen
