Howdy ,
Once upon a time, I got an email from a colleague in another country.
It's one of those "someone else told me to send this to you" emails.
The only problem? It missed an important aspect of communication.
It's simply this.
You need to be able to answer this question.
"What will this email mean to the person receiving it and any other person reading it?"
Words are not useless. They communicate more than facts.
They communicate meaning.
Meaning is defined by perspective.
And that is what we need to answer when we send a communication.
What perspective does this person need to share before he gets this email?
It's one of the reasons at work I may have a call with the person I am sending an email to before I send the email.
Doing that ensures we share the same perspective.
Especially if it is an email that can be misconstrued.
This even becomes more important in a multi-country cross culture workplace.
And your words should always be with grace, as if seasoned with salt, and be aware how it is appropriate for you to answer each man. - Col 4:6
As always.
Keep Multiplying what you have been given by God in life.
Tata,
I am a Workplace Multiplier.
