Faith & Life Lessons – July 7, 2024

Welcome to the July 7th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week.

This was a call the Calvary week.

How do you leave the tranquillity of the familiar to go on an adventure that takes you into the unknown morrow?

With a lot of fear.

I had these moments during the week. I didn’t change my resolve

But I was afraid of the resolve I had made.

I am convinced it is God’s path for me. This doesn’t eliminate the fears.

Fortunately, I was able to find the right people to speak with.

After my conversation on Sunday with one of them, I concluded that this is one of the main reasons that God brought me into the orbit of this person some 15 years ago.

This person had gone through what I had now been called by God to go through.

He could share his journey and the fears along the way.

I am in good company.

It’s great to have people that I can lean on during these sorts of seasons.

Things I Learnt

1-New Actions for new Results: During my meeting with the person I referred to, the first thing he said was (paraphrased) “Big shifts require big transitions. Incremental shifts don’t require big transitions”

He let me see that I should see more than the process but the inevitable big outcomes that this sort of action will produce.

Honestly, I still don’t see the full picture that this sort of action will produce.

Better put, I am seeing little of the big outcomes in the future.

This is why the familiar seems a better prospect.

But I’m reminded of the stories of those gone before who show me how big sacrifices will create big outcomes.

I’m trusting in the process. And holding on to the fact that if I do it right and make the big shifts, a bigger outcome lies in the future.

2-A Call to Spiritual Discernment: There are some things we will do that we will see no fruit for.

We may even get the stick from people around for doing them.

But they are what God ordered.

God is first concerned about how much we become like Him ahead of how much we get from Him.

I rediscovered the pursuit of intimacy that embraces sacrifice as an expression of inner devotion.

The greater the sacrifice required during life transitions, the higher the depth of responsibility we open ourselves to.

I am walking into my “Greater Sacrifice” season with nothing other than just knowing my sacrifice will count for something bigger in God’s overall plan for my life and humanity.

I might be just a dot in the whole tapestry of God’s painting, but I will be a dot positioned in the right place.

Postscript

May the fear of missing out not keep you from making the sacrifices necessary today to create the greater tomorrow you can’t see yet. Amen
