Faith & Life Lessons - January 8, 2023

Welcome to the January 8th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

The first week of the new year

It's a continuation of what I had been running since October 2022.

My new year started then.

I have 3 core areas that are driving my goals - the business in the two countries I cover and my practice.

These 3 core areas gave rise to 5 goals.

Just 5 goals - nothing more than these.

That's all I am chasing.

But these goals will change me.

It's the change that they will produce in me that drives me more than the goals themselves.

I am more than the goals I am going to achieve.

I am the bigger person I will become as I achieve my goals.

This is what I am running with during this season.

My season of Courage.

Yes, COURAGE is the word that launched my new year.

My new season.

My happy new year.

Things I Learnt

1-Do not Sweat the Small Stuff: Someone said he noticed that I was not perturbed by some of the things that he saw happening around me.

According to him, some of this stuff would have had him raising his emotions with his voice showing it.

On the other hand, I was calm, occasionally smiling and taking the events in their tow.

I told him "I learnt not to sweat the small stuff."

Yep, this is something I learned a while back.

But it's not just this.

My faith has given me a buffer.

A buffer that assures me things are going to work out just fine.

Even if they don't look good at the moment.

I don't let the current outcome take my focus from the future outcome.

Every little is going to be alright.

So, I don't sweat the small stuff.

2-Practices for a Lifetime: Late last year, my coach mentioned in passing someone else he had trained in the past who had a fitness practice.

I decided to check her out.

I bought her ebook and I like what I read.

I liked it enough to sign up for her fitness body program which kicks off on Monday.

She had a Q&A session on Friday and I could see why I clicked with her.

First, she was not giving a quick-fix plan to lose weight. She was offering practices that will define a new lifestyle.

Second, she was not labelling any food as a villain, the villain is what we do with the food.

This was my kind of gal.

Adding simple practices into a lifestyle creates long-term sustainable change.

I understand this from some of the stuff I choose to do last year.

Last year, I got comments that I was looking trimmer and fitter. Someone even asked what my workout routines were.

It was just simple practice.

Sleeping for up to 7 hours, dropping bread from most of my diet, increasing my vegetable intake and taking walks were the practices I introduced.

I signed up for this fitness program so I could pick up a couple of new practices to add to help me live out my vision for my physical health.

My vision is this "I want to keep my body in a shape and rhythm that allows me to serve God and the relationships that He has given me."

I like the fact that she doesn't make any food to be bad.

Why?

Because of this "They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth. Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks." 1 Tim 4:3,4.

I am on my way as I live out my vision.

Postscript

May you discover simple practices that God has put in your way to help you become a better person. May that better person reach for higher goals that make the world better. Amen
