Typically, the girls we rescue begin school in January. However, the following situation is unusual— five of the girls did exceptionally well at the safe home and each one was reunified more quickly with safe family members. These girls were excited to begin school. But their excitement turned to disappointment when they learned they must wait until January. When Doreen mentioned this to me, I asked her what she thought was best. She thinks it’s best for them to be in school now, rather than be at home idle for the next 7 months. The problem is, we had not budgeted for 5 additional girls to be in school. The total cost, for the remainder of 2026, is $1670, or $334 per child.
