The Mindset Shift: Seeing Self Care as a PRIORITY, not an extra

Well hello there!

Happy Sunday! I wonder, have you set aside any time for yourself today? Or have your needs fallen to the bottom of the to-do list once again?

There are so many societal beliefs and stories about being a good Mum that are unhealthy. Stories such as:

Good Mums are selfless, always.

Good Mums put their kids first, always.

Good Mums say yes, before checking in with their own needs.

Good Mums can have it all and do it all.

These stories and beliefs are part of the reason that so many of us push our own needs aside and subconsciously feel that self care = self indulgent.

Mama, nothing could be further from the truth! We need to actively choose to make a mindset shift around our own needs, to see self care as a PRIORITY, not an extra. Having a spotlessly clean and tidy home - that kind of thing is an extra. Nurturing and being kind to yourself is essential.

If nothing else shifts your perspective, consider this. If we as Mums continue to ignore our needs and put ourselves last, eventually our physical and/or mental health will suffer. This in turn means we cannot give our loved ones our best selves.

Ignoring your needs has a direct impact on your ability to support and care for your loved ones!

That's a real truth.

Phew. OK, so how can we start to shift our perspective on this? Start by committing to choosing you for 5 minutes, every day. That's it, just five minutes. Take 5 and massage your hand cream into your hands with love. Take 5 and plug into your fave song, even have a boogie along to it. Take 5 and enjoy the feel of the sunshine on your face. Take 5 and sit down to drink that cup of tea. Take 5 and do a stretching session. Take 5 and text your bestie.

There are so many simple ways you can be kind to yourself.

Until next time, yours in graciousness,

Michelle
