I lost a referral lead (here's what I did next)

What happens when you lose a lead? Especially a referral?

It happens to the best of us - agencies, freelancers, consultants. You spend hours on discovery, build a solid proposal, and then... they go with someone cheaper on Upwork.​

After that, it all feels wasted. I used to feel the same way.

A couple months ago, a referral came in. Enterprise company that helps businesses make better hiring decisions (that's all I can tell you).

They only wanted to target enterprise HR departments. On the discovery call, I suggested: "Why not go after hiring agencies instead?" (I've had great results with them in the past.) They'd have more frequent use of the service.​
