Stocks Close Moderately Lower as a Debt-Ceiling Deal Remains Elusive
Stock indexes took a tumble on Wednesday π. The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) closed down -0.73%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) closed down -0.77%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -0.50%. This comes as talks to lift the U.S. debt ceiling remain at an impasse π©, causing stocks to remain under pressure. Negotiations between President Bidenβs team and representatives of House Speaker McCarthy showed little progress on Wednesday. To make matters worse, U.S. stocks were also impacted by a slide in the Euro Stoxx 50 to a 1-3/4 month low on inflation concerns after UK Apr consumer prices rose more than expected π±.
worldsteel: Global Crude Steel Output Dipped in April
π 63 countries reported to worldsteel that crude steel production in April 2023 was 161.4 million tonnes, down 2.40% from the previous year. Asia and Oceania were the biggest steel producers with 121.10 Mt, followed by EU-27 with 11.10 Mt and North America with 9.20 Mt. Other regions produced: Africa (1.3), Russia & Other CIS + Ukraine (7.5), Other Europe (3.5), Middle East (4.2) and South America (3.6). π°Fed Governor Waller doesn't want to raise rates unless inflation drops to 2%, but he's waiting to see how the data looks over the next three weeks before making a decision on June FOMC meeting.
Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) Beats Expectations in Strong Q1, Stock Jumps 14.3%
π Nvidia, the graphics chip designer, just crushed Q1 FY2024 expectations, with revenue at $7.19 billion (down 13.2% YoY). But wait, there's more! Their guidance for next quarter has analysts π in surprise, with expected revenue of $11 billion, a whopping 54.6% higher than anticipated. π° Nvidia's GAAP profit also increased from $1.62 billion to $2.04 billion this quarter. π The biggest drivers of demand for CPUs and graphics chips are the exciting trends of 5G, IoT, autonomous driving, and high performance computing in the data center space. However, like all semiconductor companies, there are ups and downs π’ depending on supply and demand imbalances and exposure to the product cycles of PCs and smartphones.
Petco vs. Chewy: Which Is the Worse Stock to Buy?
πΆPetco Health and Wellness (WOOF) is having a RUFF day, down almost 17% in mid-afternoon trading on Wednesday. The company released their Q1 2023 earnings this morning before the opening and investors weren't too Pawsitive about the gross margin erosion. As a result, volume is paw-tastic πΎ, 6 times more than its 30-day average. πΎAt the same time, Chewy (CHWY) lost more than 3% of its value on the day, even though they're reporting their earnings on May 31 after the markets close. As a result, their volume on the day is slightly higher than their 30-day average. π ββοΈIf you're thinking about purchasing either of these stocks, I wouldn't recommend it. Let's take a closer look at the negatives of each business. By the end, you'll know which of the two is the
Debt Ceiling, FOMC Minutes & Stocks - Which Way?
Lately, there's been a lot of noise about and how it could affect the π economy and stock market. But don't worry, I think things will work out and we could even see stocks go . From a technical perspective, I've been looking at the NQ and ES charts and I feel like the NASDAQ 100 is doing better than the S&P 500. So, I'm keeping an π out for a possible spread between the two indexes. π In terms of a potential futures spread, I'm thinking a ratio of 2:3 could be π. This could mean going LONG on two E-mini Nasdaq and SHORT on three E-mini S&P 500, or going LONG on two Micro E-mini Nasdaq and SHORT on two Micro E-mini S&P 500.

Options Volume for Mister Car Wash (MCW) Points to Opportunity for the Patient Investor
ππ¦ Mister Car Wash (MCW) is a publicly traded company and according to some, the nation's largest car wash brand. π While some may think investing in MCW is outdated compared to new technologies like cloud computing and AI, there may be a chance for patient investors. π MCW's stock value has dropped over 10% this year and the car wash industry might seem irrelevant to some, especially with many still working from home. However, a closer look reveals a potential opportunity for those willing to take a risk. π°
