3-Point Thursday #214

Nov 05, 2020 4:43 pm

Hey,

Getting it in early from a very cold, foggy and locked down East London!

This week's 3-pointer:

πŸŽ™ Podcast: Jeremy Sochan

He was hotly requested after the pod with his peer Cameron Hildreth, so I was happy to have got the chance to sit down with Jeremy Sochan this week. Sochan is making waves, and is another of the top talents we have had out of the UK in recent years. He committed to Baylor this summer, and is now in Germany for the season - he has a very bright future and I have no doubt the federation will be kicking themselves for years to come for not having got him to suit up for GB (listen to the pod if you want more on that!).

πŸ”’ Lockdown 2 begins

So today is the day that the second lockdown officially begins, and Basketball England have put out what that means for basketball - essentially it is just the BBL (check the season preview), WBBL (season preview), NBL 1 and WNBL 1 left standing - and even that is venue dependent (it's already looking like Essex Rebels are shutting down for the month, for instance). All junior leagues and lower senior competitions are now suspended until 2021. And with the government financial package *still* not confirmed, things aren't exactly looking rosy.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ GB Senior Women's squad

With the next international window fast approaching, GB have announced a squad of 13 for the trip to Istanbul for the upcoming Women’s EuroBasket Qualifier. The biggest surprise - compounded by the absence of Jo Leedham-Warner due to her pregnancy - was the omission of Holly Winterburn. Brad did a nice opinion piece summing up our feelings on the situation. The federation - who haven't communicated with her at all - are risking isolating one of their potential future stars.

That wraps up another drop, as always, hit reply to let me know any thoughts, questions or anything else!

With gratitude,

Sam
