3-Point Thursday #313
Apr 20, 2023 7:54 pm
Hey,
We are 38 days out from the Hoopsfix All-Star Classic which is taking up all my time at the moment - and early bird ticket sales end in a week - get yours now before the prices go up 25%! We are currently on track for another sell out - once they are gone, they are gone!
This week's 3-pointer:
💷 OG Anunoby invests in the Lions
London Lions made some big time waves this week with the announcement they've secured Toronto Raptors London-born star OG Anunoby as a minority shareholder in the club. Surprised to see some negative comments around it, but for me Lions are really setting the standard this season; there has been some casualties along the way, but it really doesn't feel like they're missing with the moves they're making. Wouldn't surprise me if OG becomes the first of many NBA investors; could see BBL franchises becoming attractive propositions to players in the same way as the Australian NBL has. Long may it continue.
🏴 Four Nations tournament wraps up
England U18 men completed a sweep at the Four Nations last week in Cardiff, while the women finished second to Ireland, as two days of non stop action (literally) came to an end. Not sure how much it is a preview of anything we are going to see this summer at the Euros with GB...
🕊 Jim Bennison MBE passes away
Saddened to see that Jim Bennison MBE, founder of Stockport Basketball Club and a mammoth figure for the sport in the North West, has passed away aged 92 over the Easter weekend. I only got the chance to interact with him once, where he was thoroughly pleasant and had him earmarked for a podcast but unfortunately never got round to it - what an absolute legend. RIP.
That wraps up another drop, as always, hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else!
With gratitude,
Sam
