3-Point Thursday #375

Feb 06, 2025 10:11 pm

Hey,

The newsletter has been neglected so far in 2025 but we're back with a bang!

This week's 3-pointer:

🇬🇧 GB Women cruise past Estonia

GB Senior Women have just dominated Estonia in Manchester tonight in the EuroBasket Women 2025 qualifiers and now head to Denmark for a match up on Sunday - it should be a case of win and in.

💣 BBF & SLB in public battle

British basketball has been going through yet another public dispute over the past week or so after the BBF announced they've gone into an exclusive negotiating period with an alternate bidder for the pro league operating license. The SLB didn't end up applying for the license after they have questioned the legality of the process which required a £25,000 tender fee and a £1.5m license fee that the BBF says was negotiable, despite there being terms in the ITT that state otherwise. I got BBF Chair Chris Grant on the pod to discuss what was going on, and expect a further follow up on this from the other side soon...meanwhile, highly recommend checking out Dan Routledge's opening monologue on the whole situation on the most recent episode of Sunday Night Breakdown - "we don't want this".

🏟️ CoLA get greenlight on £3.2m facility

News of the week - another purpose built basketball facility coming to London as City of London Academy Southwark have got the green light on a two court space with seating for 450 that should be completed by February 2026! Huge news - hopefully the first of many to come!

That wraps up another week, as always, hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else.

With gratitude,

Sam
