3-Point Thursday #305

Feb 23, 2023 8:16 pm

Hey,

Good evening from Newcastle, where I'm up a day early for meetings ahead of the GB game tomorrow night (more on that below) - first time visiting the Newcastle Eagles' arena and it has been awesome to see in person! Been a busy week of travel - was in Utah for 5 days over the weekend for our film premiere, before a day back in London and then straight to Newcastle. It never stops!

This week's 3-pointer:

🎥 'Got Next' - Hoopsfix short doc with the NBA goes live

After premiering at NBA All-Star Weekend in Utah on Friday, our short film 'Got Next' as part of the NBA Films for Fans initiative went live on NBA.com and the NBA App this week. Defo one of those pinch me moments, and I am proud to be able to help bring British basketball to a wider audience. Check out the film and let me know what you think!

Caledonia end Lions' 52-game WBBL winning streak

The most shocking result of the week comes courtesy of Caledonia Gladiators who beat the seemingly unbeatable London Lions in London on Sunday - in the first game under new head coach Stella Kaltsidou, after choosing to replace Mark Clark the week before. Ouch. Elsewhere in the WBBL, check out this nice feature on Oaklands' Grace George (who happens to have a GB passport...).

🇬🇧 GB Women qualify, men playing for pride

In hugely positive news for the game, GB have qualified for EuroBasket Women following the most recent window with wins over Portugal and Estonia, meanwhile, the men return to action tomorrow night against Belgium, before going to Serbia to play on Monday - with World Cup qualification now out of the question, expect to see some first caps from the initial 24-man squad that was announced. Meanwhile, the youth teams found out their draws for the summer.

That wraps up another drop, as always hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else!

With gratitude,

Sam

P.S. Check out the BBL top 10 plays from January, with the young boy Zamoku Weluche-Ume serving up a poster!
