3-Point Thursday #304

Feb 09, 2023 3:05 pm

Hey,

We are continuing to move forward with Summer 2023 planning, trying to get dates announced sooner rather than later - but a heads up for newsletter subscribers, May 28th for the Hoopsfix All-Star Classic and Pro-Am starting Sundays from June 18th for 5 weeks - book it in the diary (and if you're new around here, check out the Foundation website for more info).

This week's 3-pointer:

📝 Survey launched for landmark study

At the end of last year, the Hoopsfix Foundation and Basketball England funded a study working with the University of Bath on the impact of dedicated/high quality outdoor basketball courts. Independent researcher Connor Russell has already spent a couple of months collecting qualitative data by interviewing players in and around Clapham, and now we've launched a study to dig deeper with quantitative data. Almost 1300 people have filled it out in the first 3 days, and we are targeting as many as possible to give us the biggest dataset that has existed in England on outdoor court usage in the UK - fill out the survey if you haven't already, and please spread it amongst your networks. We are hoping to get the study published in a peer-reviewed journal later this year - giving us some legit evidence to present to local authorities/orgs/brands when seeking funding for these projects.

🇬🇧 GB Women in action

With the final 12 confirmed last night, GB are ready to take on Estonia and Portugal this week in Manchester - with still a chance of qualifying for EuroBasket Women. If you still want to get there - use code HF10 for a 10% discount on any ticket orders, or tune in on the BBC Red button!

🌟 Jeremy Sochan selected to Rising Stars game

Jeremy Sochan has earned his first selection to the Rising Stars at NBA All-Star Weekend in Utah in recognition of his standout rookie year. The Milton Keynes/Itchen product is doing the UK proud - deserves it all! I will be lucky enough to be in attendance next week (announcements coming on that) and hoping to get some time with him - stay tuned.

Elsewhere, Lions continue to make history after securing a EuroCup playoff spot last night, taking some much desired heat away from the women's programme and their shocking decision to remove Mark Clark from his Head Coach role - or rather, his 'promotion' as they put it.

That wraps up another week, as always, hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else!

With gratitude,

Sam

P.S. You seen the Liverpool FC x LeBron collection?! Thoughts?
