3-Point Thursday #361

Jun 20, 2024 10:01 am

Hey,

Well, it's been quite the week in British basketball so let's get into it.

This week's 3-pointer:

BBF terminates BBL operating license amidst 777 controversy

This was an absolute bombshell to drop on Friday - with the British Basketball Federation terminating the league operating license with immediate effect, citing serious financial concerns surrounding the league's creditors - the clubs released their own statements in response, seemingly in support of the decision. It appears as though it's the beginnings of attempts to remove 777 Partners from the league. Tied into it all, London Lions were also omitted from the EuroCup due to concerns around ownership and the financial stability of the club. In more positive news, Caledonia Gladiators have been confirmed in the BCL qualifying round once again.

☀️ Hoopsfix Pro-Am tips off

We got the summer league underway this weekend, with a bunch of pros and semi-pros suiting up. There were wins for Ankd, FunctionAll, OT Boyz and TMB in the men's competition, while Emerald and Diamond had opening weekend wins in the women's comp. Join us again from this Sunday for Week 2, you can get a season pass for £10 (now works out at £2.50 a week!) or you buy individual week access for £4.

3️⃣ GB Men advance to FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup for first time

The GB 3x3 men's squad - made up of Ashley Hamilton, Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye, Evan Walshe and Hafeez Abdul - have advanced to the Europe Cup for the first time, after the qualifying tournament this weekend in Romania. Meanwhile, it was not to be for the women made up of Claire Paxton, Hannah Jump, Hannah Rob and Savannah Wilkinson – who fell agonisingly short at the final hurdle.

That wraps up another drop, as always, hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else!

With gratitude,

Sam

P.S. Keep an eye on Quinn Ellis who is doing workouts in the US at the moment, having decided to keep his name in the 2024 NBA Draft, meanwhile his GB teammate Carl Wheatle has made the big move to Reyer Venezia - who will be playing in EuroCup next season.
