3-Point Thursday #275

Jan 20, 2022 8:18 pm

Hey,

Another week, another newsletter! Juggling too many balls, but behind the scenes things are moving in the right direction - summer schedule coming together, sponsors getting locked in, funding bids being written, documentary being made, apps being built, tech packs being completed...it's a lot, but 2022 gonna be epic!

This week's 3-pointer:

🦁 London Lions & Vince Macaulay part ways

The most shocking news of the week was out of London as Lions parted ways with Head Coach (and minority owner) Vince Macaulay. Coaches losing their job is rare enough in the BBL as it is, let alone someone like Vince, who basically IS the London Lions. Can't help but feel for him - he built that club from the bottom up and saved it from the brink multiple times. He put out his own very classy thank you note on social media, but I don't think for a second this will be the last we see of him and his involvement with British basketball!

🦅 Newcastle Eagles part ways with Chris Bunten

Newcastle Eagles' WBBL franchise is in disarray (though their CVL is going from strength to strength) after letting go of Head Coach Chris Bunten just weeks before the Cup Final. His release follows the departure of two players in Ebony Horton and Abby Lowe, the latter of whom had a debut to remember with her new side Durham, going off for a career-high 38 last week. No replacement has been announced yet for Bunten, but the Cup final is fast approaching!

✍️ Get to Know the Girls

Brad has been doing a great job with our Get to Know series, profiling some of the top up and coming prospects - most recently Carys Roy, following on from Natalie Charity and Charlie Wroe this season...don't get me started on covering 2005-born players; I remember starting out following 1990 and 1991 born prospects! Feel old 👴🏻.

That wraps up another week, as always, hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else!

With gratitude,

Sam
