3-Point Thursday #258
Sep 28, 2021 12:02 am
Hey,
After being SO late this week, I genuinely considered skipping a week of the newsletter, but then got an email from someone asking where it is...
So...last week's 3-pointer:
🌍 London Lions put on a show in EuroCup Women qualifier
The reason this didn't go out on Thursday was because I was at Crystal Palace until late and by the time I got home I just wanted to crash (that's not even an excuse, should have done it before!). But I would trade sending out the newsletter on time to witness a performance like that - history was made as Mark Clark's side, stacked with British talent, dominated Gran Canaria. It was a rare occasion me and Brad got to work together in person; check out the condensed highlights here, a mix of Holly Winterburn's performance and a post-game reaction piece with Kennedy Leonard. Second leg on Thursday.
🎨 London Lions rebrand stirs up a storm
The Lions rebrand was revealed last week, and has not gone down well with the fans. On Instagram it ended up being one of our most commented posts ever (with the vast majority being pretty negative) and on Twitter, our poll with almost 600 votes saw 89.3% saying they did not like it. It wasn't a hard one to predict, though I actually quite like it as a logo just not for the Lions - not sure if it is that representative of what the club is, though I think I see what they are trying to do. Other interesting piece of food for thought here, is that, in theory, if the Lions are trying to appeal to a new audience (which they will need to if they are going to reach the levels they say they are aspiring to), it doesn't actually matter what the current fanbase thinks...
🕸 Anyone experienced with managing a Discord server?
You might remember a few weeks back I was speaking about the Hoopsfix Action Network, a private community I have been intending on setting up for a little while now for 'doers' - people on the operations side of British basketball, whether it be running a club, events, camps, or any other basketball-related venture to knowledge share and help each other (and in turn, the sport) grow. We're rolling it out on Discord - and am looking for any tips or advice to get the most out of it, if you have any? I use Discord a bit but only on the member-side, not as an admin, so any thing you think might be useful, let me know! (Likewise, if you're interested in joining, let me know and will notify you when it goes live!)
That wraps up another late drop! As always hit reply with any questions or anything else!
With gratitude,
Sam
