HHF/B&B Newsletter - 2024 is our 10th Anniversary Year!
Jan 25, 2024 6:30 pm
To all HOLLYWOOD HORRORFEST & B&B filmmakers & supporters...
Hi . Welcome to our first ever NEWSLETTER.
Believe it or not, HHF will be 10 years old this year. So we plan on some amazing events in 2024 (including a new podcast series, new issue of B&B magazine, more screenings, more indie filmmaker networking events and a truly awesome PRICE AWARD Honoree!). But first, let's recap on an amazing 2023...
After a few years of inactivity - due to COVID and the unexpected death of my dear wife, Reiko, from cancer - I was so incredibly happy that our re-launch last year was so successful. Can you believe it, we raised an amazing $4,000 for charity! (for the VPAM and the KEEP-A-BREAST FOUNDATION). That's the most we've ever raised.
So a big thank you with all my heart!
ANULKA HONORED WITH HALL OF FAME AWARD
My dear friend, actress ANULKA DZIUBINSKA (in conversation with film historian DAVID DEL VALLE), was honored with the first ever Hollywood Horrorfest HALL OF FAME Award for her performance in the cult film VAMPYRES (1975).
Anulka even gave away free photos, signing them for the fans who attended. She's amazing. What other festival does that?
JOHN LANDIS HONORED WITH THE VINCENT PRICE AWARD
We were so lucky and proud that the 4th VINCENT PRICE AWARD honored the great JOHN LANDIS. John was given the award by VICTORIA PRICE in recognition of his two massively iconic works, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and THRILLER. John and his family were in attendance and loved every minute (even laughing at my very silly, Pythonesque edit of THRILLER).
I interviewed John, which has to be the easiest job in the business, as he's such a fabulously entertaining raconteur. And for those who were there, the Vincent Price anecdote had to be the highlight of the afternoon. I still laugh, thinking about it.
A huge shout out to the ever gracious VICTORIA PRICE, without whom the PRICE AWARD would never exist. Her always insightful and entertaining lecture on her wonderful dad makes this award ever so special. Love you, Victoria!
Plus thanks to John for signing items for the fans who attended this charity event. Again, what other festival does that?
So what has 2024 in store for HHF and B&B?
Well quite a lot.
HHF 10th ANNIVERSARY
This is the 10th Anniversary for both HHF and the PRICE AWARD, so I'm planning some truly special events. You'll love 'em all, I promise. Still can't believe 10 years have passed.
NEW PODCAST
As for HHF and B&B, we'll have our own Podcast too. With so many celebrity and successful indie filmmaking friends it seems like a no-brainer that we should do this. Not only will we cover careers but also how to gain traction as indie filmmakers, and how to navigate the ever changing indie film business - from financing your projects to having successful distribution strategies.
ALL NEW B&B MAGAZINE
The newly re-branded B&B Festival will be publishing the first 2024 issue of B&B MAGAZINE (fundraising for the KEEP-A-BREAST FOUNDATION) later in the year. We have some great articles lined up. Everyone works for free on the mag, as it is a fundraising venture. With that said, we're always looking for volunteer writers with articles that may be just right for us. So don't be shy if you want to pitch something cool.

FILMMAKER MEETUPS
We're also looking into having a regular (smaller) venue to be a screening/meetup location for LA-based filmmakers. A space to network, socialize and screen your trailers/WIP. I'll keep you all posted on that, as I know many of you have shown interest in having something like this.
EARLY BIRD FESTIVAL SUBMISSIONS
We're now accepting discounted EARLY BIRD submissions for both our 2024 festivals through FILMFREEWAY.

MY FILMMAKING JOURNEY
Follow me, as I finish my first ever feature film, THE WHISPERERS (currently in the post production phase). It's a psychological ghost story, with one main character, one main location and absolutely no dialogue whatsoever. I've been working on this (on and off, but to be honest, mostly off) for about 9 years now. It started as a short film. Then I realized it was going so well it should be a feature. So I completely scrapped the short (and the footage we'd shot) and started shooting it as a feature - around 2 or 3 days every year for about 5 years. I now have a few (very unique) FX shots to complete, some foley work, finish the score and then it's done! Sounds simple enough - fingers crossed (LOL).
So join me on my unique filmmaking/distribution journey. And as you follow me hopefully this will help in your own exciting filmmaking endeavors.
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
We'll also be featuring interviews with top directors and filmmakers from around the world (from the US, JAPAN and across EUROPE), and getting to know how they finance, make and distribute their work.
So spread the word and get your friends to subscribe to this essential and always fun newsletter.
That's it for now. If you have any feedback or questions, just reach out.
Cheers,
Miles
