INDIE LA FILMS, BENNY HILL and more!

Hi ,

Welcome to our first NEWSLETTER of 2025. And it's been a very busy year so far. We've been recording more SOHO Podcasts (I hope you're enjoying them as much as we're enjoying making them) and setting up a series of INDIE FILM screenings. We definitely have a lot going on this month...

So without further ado, read on…

INDIE FILM LA - Feb. 15th Discount Tickets

image

2025 has been pretty good so far. I celebrated my birthday last January, on the 11th, in appropriately cinematic style. I even dressed up - as the SOHO CINEMA manager. It was the date of the launch of INDIE FILMS LA, our weekly film festival with a difference.

Every Saturday we screen a variety of genre shorts then follow up with an in depth, but always fun, Q&A in conversation with the filmmakers on-stage. At the end of the evening we finish off with fun red carpet photos and a mix and mingle gathering. What could be better.

To celebrate this month's series of screenings we're offering a $5 DISCOUNT just for you, my faithful readers.

 BEST OF BENNY HILL Podcast

image

We always have a lot of fun doing these Podcasts and decided to have our latest exclusively about the late, great British comedian BENNY HILL. Incredibly popular in the UK and around the world during the 1960s, 70s and 80s, his career went into a decline, when he was unceremoniously fired from Thames TV during the era of "alternative" comedy in the late 1980s. He never got over this snub (as his show was still popular with the masses but now felt dated and out of touch). While the U.K. stopped showing his work, it remained incredibly popular on US TV right up to his death. Burt ReynoldsMichael Caine and even Snoop Dogg were among his many fans. BENNY suffered a heart attack and died alone in his apartment in 1992.

So join my good self, Miles Flanagan, with Jared Carlson and Sean Sardi as we ask the simple question... "Was THE BEST OF BENNY HILL film simply too smutty for TV?" This classic 1974 compilation movie has influenced countless comedians and comedy films in the decades since, but does it still hold up (ooh Vicar!) and will it ever bounce back (ooh Matron!) in fashion? Sit back and enjoy a ribald and entertaining discussion of all things BENNY HILL and US/British humor/humour.

 VENUE PARKING

Parking can be tough, but we recommend the following -

The theatre parking lot just around the corner.

image

If the theatre lot fills up try the underground parking structure around the corner from the SOHO (see illustration) at: 1110 N Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90029 - check times/prices with the attendant.

image

More details here. There is also metered parking on Oxford Ave., and on the streets around the venue (incl. Santa Monica and Western).

These 2 spaces are often great public parking areas.

We also suggest LYFT and/or UBER.

 AND FINALLY...

If you have any feedback or questions, just reach out.

Cheers,

Miles
