 SLEAZIEST DOUBLE BILL EVER? Podcast

image

Check out our latest fun and intriguing look at obscure movie double-bills from the 1970s. Join Miles Flanagan, Jared Carlson and Sean Sardi as they ask the simple question... “Is this the sleaziest double bill ever?"

image

These potentially classic 1972 movies - DEATH LINE and WHAT THE PEEPER SAW - are both about families, but one’s concerned with under-age incest and the other cannibalism.

Released in U.K cinemas together in 72, they must have had many rushing for the exits. Definitely two exploitation films that could never be made today. Both films are a wild ride. Check out what the SOHO team have to say...

 HOLLYWOOD FOREVER CEMETERY

Last week I visited Hollywood Forever Cemetery, the resting place of my late wife Reiko. It's such a beautiful and serene place. And it was such a glorious day I decided to spend a bit longer there. Amongst the peacocks and squirrels roaming around I was reminded of the headstones of some very interesting Hollywood people. So thought I'd share them with you all. Click on the photos for more info and rare Quicktimes.

image

It's definitely worth visiting and a great place to just relax and contemplate life. I love this place.

If you don't know the tragic story of VIRGINIA RAPPE you should definitely look her up. And I was surprised to see this great comedic actor here too...

image

And it's nice to see Maila Nurmi (VAMPIRA) and Darren McGavin (KOLCHAK) side by side.

There are so many beloved stars of Hollywood's glorious past here, but as I was leaving I noticed a new cemetery plaque close to Reiko's. And was surprised when I saw who it was...

image

And finally.. I always find this one of the funniest headstones in the park - "That's All Folks." If you don't know who he is you'll definitely know his voice(s). MEL was a genius...

 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEKEND

There's a very little secret that's being unveiled this weekend in a very rare appearance. It's a Hollywood marvel that hardly anyone knows about. So it's great to see it being showcased in this way. Intrigued? Well so are we.

image

This Saturday is a rare opportunity to visit Hollywood Heritage's "Hollywood in Miniature" exhibit at their Preservation Resource Center on Hollywood Boulevard with Art Conservator Donna Williams. Please note that this event is not at their regular Museum.

image

Originally created by master cabinetmaker Joe Pellkofer, the "Hollywood In Miniature” was partly designed to keep his master craftsmen busy in 1936’s slack periods. Pellkofer had his craftsmen re-create detailed street scenes of Hollywood with its landmark theaters, churches, billboards, businesses and neighborhoods. Surrounding the entire city was painted a cyclorama mural of the Hollywood Hills and surrounding areas.

image

First displayed in 1946, it was an immediate sensation and went on display across the US. At one point in Oregon, the exhibits were stolen turning up in North Carolina. In 1947, the miniatures were placed in a permanent exhibit on the Million Dollar Pier in Atlantic City until Pellkofer decided to take them on the road again. Growing tired of travel, he brought them back to California and locked them in his barn - and there they stayed for decades.

So don't miss out on this very rare chance to see something truly amazing and unique. Note that there are only 2 sessions and the first has SOLD OUT.
