It was 12 years ago--when I was very new in understanding abuse in our churches--that I first began trying to understand the dynamic that kept such abuses in place.

This article expands on that early understanding. I was privileged to write it as a guest post a few years back for Leslie Vernick (author of The Emotionally Destructive Marriage).

When I looked at the New Testament with fresh eyes, I saw that an abusive (bullying) dynamic actually went on in the New Testament church, and at least one apostle fell prey to it.

All of us who become aware want to better understand this dynamic.
