Are You a "Covenant Breaker" for Leaving Your Church?

May 17, 2026 3:07 pm

Hi ~

Fun times: I've written about a sermon that commands believers to completely cut off family members who have left . . . not Jesus Christ, but their particular group.

The speaker has twisted over 40 Scriptures to get there, calling those who leave "harlots," "covenant breakers," and "enemies of the cross of Christ."

And of course, as I love to do, I've gone through and done some untwisting.

I've also recorded the article. You can read it and listen to it here:

Are You a "Covenant Breaker" for Leaving Your Church?

(Responding to a Spiritually Abusive Sermon)

My article walks through the sermon section by section, showing how Scripture has been stripped from context and an invented "membership covenant" has replaced the gospel.

If you're in this kind of environment, or you love someone who is, I trust this article will help you.

And if you've already left and been told you're apostate for doing so: you're not (of course).

If you love Jesus and trust in His finished work, you are His beloved child. And there is great hope for recovery from the spiritual abusers.

Standing with you on THE Covenant--the New Covenant in Jesus Christ,

Rebecca
