To understand the difference between appeasing and being considerate, let me share with you a technique.
Let's begin.
Step 1: Identify the Behavior. Recall a time in your life when you felt, deep down, that your behavior was not aligned with your intent and who you are.
You sensed it, but you ignored the inner you.
If you are finding it difficult to be able to recall one at the moment, let me share some examples of contexts and situations that can help
You were being more formal or courteous than was needed
You were extra polite to a specific person for a specific reason
You appreciated where it was not needed or required
Something similar along the lines of where your outward behavior was not aligned with your inward thoughts.
Step 2: Write it down, read it back, and Tag PPB.
Write this event down in a notebook. I suggest writing it by hand and in detail.
After you finish writing it
Read all that you wrote, and in your response, wherever you find yourself extremely polite, appeasing someone more than required, or being too formal, tag it as PPB (People Pleaser behavior). You can also use a highlighter pen or underline it.
