Illegal- Bradford Pear Tree...Are you seeing it's blooms?
Mar 19, 2022 1:01 pm
Greetings,
Less than 24 hours until it is officially Spring! Our daughter officially declared it Spring earlier this week when the last of the snow melted, the temperature warmed up to t-shirt and shorts weather for her, and it was light out longer! She was skipping around the neighborhood saying how good the sun felt on her arms...hope we all take a moment and feel that joy, as well!
This week I wanted to share some timely information. Depending on your location these trees could already be blooming or getting ready to. The Bradford/Callery Pear Tree. Have you seen those shapely trees with their white flowers yet? They are very popular in residential areas to line streets, as well as in shopping centers.
When they are in bloom, it becomes very easy to see one of the reasons they are starting to be removed from sale at nurseries. Look around when you see some in an area they were planted. If there is some natural area nearby, you may notice the same white flowered trees. To learn more about the bigger problems this creates for the environment, as well as a great alternative tree to consider, check out the posts below.
We had one of these trees in the front of the house we bought. We took it down and have replaced it with a native tree. Some of our neighbors have done the same and/or planning to this year.
Please consider sharing these posts to help educate more people. It's not just this particular tree, but when people gain an understanding of how these non-natives cause rippling effects in the environment, they are more likely to make changes.
