Hello, partners
It's been a while.
In June, we wrote that we'd moved to a new country in the Middle East, having lived in Central Asia for 14 years. Ever since the move, we were busy apartment hunting, applying for visas, exploring the city, figuring out where the grocery stores are, moving into our new apartment and outfitting the place, celebrating birthdays in transition, starting at a new school, traveling for meetings, eventually entering the Deaf community, and all the while, still working in our roles and juggling our kids' grief in leaving the only home they've ever known. The good news is, the kids really love their new school which is an answer from heaven to our fervent prayers.
That's it. You're all caught up. Now I want to tell you about Deaflympics.
Did you know there is Olympics for only Deaf athletes? This year, it's being held in Tokyo, Japan from November 15th to the 26th. About 90 countries will be represented at Deaflympics by 3100 Deaf athletes and thousands of spectators will attend. This is a great opportunity to meet the Deaf from many countries and share the Good News. We are sending 90 volunteers, which include students and nationals, partnering with the Deaf churches of Japan and with other orgs. 3,000 pins will be passed out with cards printed with the website for the Good News in various languages. Many conversations will be had.
Futhermore, Hank and our oldest daughter, Stella, will be attending for part of that time to share the Good News.
Will you join us in prayer for the athletes, spectators, volunteers, and for Hank and Stella? Here is a link to receive a prayer prompt by email or text each day: click here. If you do not want to receive a prompt each day of Deaflympics, you can pray for the hearts of the lost Deaf to be open to the Good News, for the volunteers to share powerfully and boldy and for language barriers to fall down.
Thank you,
Hank, Ruby, Stella, Roxanne, and Jimi
