G'day !


It is with great anticipation as a father that I look forward to celebrating with my son his 21st birthday this weekend! He has become a fine young man. He demonstrates courage, strength, mastery and honour, and I know he will rise as a good man meeting his responsibilities as an employee, husband, father, etc. I am proud of him and hope he reads this.


This week, I share recommendations on nostalgia, failure, mastery and faith.


U2 at Fifty Reconsidered

Very popular during my early young adult years was the band U2. While they weren't my favourite band, I did enjoy their approach to Rock 'n Roll and to protest. Not as in-your-face as The Sex Pistols but being Irish was certainly intriguing.


I find myself feeling nostalgic these days for music from my youth, bands I did not turn onto so much earlier but really enjoy revisiting their music now: Led Zeppelin, Rush and also the band U2.


Writing for Quillette, New Zealand author David Cohen himself revisits the music of the band, whose debut album turns 50 this year. He too has developed a new appreciation for the band.


While I am not an advocate of pretending to be cool, music can still excite my soul. I am probably sure it can do the same for you.
