Instagram LogoCongratulations to G100-MAC India for organising a Panel event with eminent experts on December 30 in Delhi, to discuss the systemic change required to encourage & empower women in the professional space. This Panel discussion was organised by the leadership of the Indian chapter of G100 Media Arts & Communication led by Country Chair, Swapna Abraham and her Country Council. ~~~~~~~~ Today, women make up only 19.9% of the workforce in India and are paid 34.5% less than men for the same work. Itโ€™s time to realize the importance of gender equality - failure to do so threatens to push the gender equality timeline by more than 50 years - Accenture According to World Bank estimates, India has one of the lowest female labour force participation rates in the world. Less than a third of women โ€“ defined in the report as 15 or older โ€“ are working or actively looking for a job. The female labour participation rate in India had fallen to 20.3% in 2019 from more than 26% in 2005, compared with 30.5% in neighboring Bangladesh and 33.7% in Sri Lanka. A large number of companies are interested in bridging this gender gap and are creating policies that are more inclusive, but a lot more needs to be done.
