We protect what we love
FRIDAY . 09 . 04 . 21 .
Hey there!
Is it just me, or is 2021 speeding up as we get further into it?! Maybe it was just the extra long weekend messing with the workweek/weekend continuum - but regardless, we are stoked to be bringing you another hit of FWP weekly newsletter goodness.
Today, some of the FWP team are sharing what's inspiring us at the moment. There are so many incredible initiatives and achievements happening right now, and they continue to motivate us to help making the world a better place for all. Podcasts seem to be particularly popular at the moment - maybe it's after all of those long weekend road trips!
Here is what's inspiring team FWP right now...
STONE & WOOD X QUEER FAMILY INC COLLABORATION
Loved & Sampled By: Simon
Every 10 weeks Stone and Wood launches a breath fresh air into the world of beer . The Counter Culture beer range is a break from beer business as usual - the creativity, design, packaging and beer styles is super fresh and exciting. Love their current offering ‘Peachy Cheeks’ range (a sassy Bellini Sour - yum!) which is backed up through profits from the beer and matching merch that supports their LGBTIQ+ partner QueerFamily Inc. For more info, check out Counter Culture Beer and order your peachy delight online here
BRENÉ BROWN & SIMON SINEK TALK AN INFINITE GAME
Currently Inspiring: Hilary
In the early days of For Wild Places, Simon Sinek was referenced regularly as we worked to find our 'Why'. As we evolved, we reminded ourselves to be brave, awkward and kind. Needless to say, both Brené Brown and Simon Sinek have had a great influence on the values of both For Wild Places, and me personally. This conversation between these two inspiring thought leaders gave language to the mindset shift I've experienced over the past 12 months, and has a lot of incredible quotes and takeaways which I'll be drawing on to continue pursuing an infinite mindset.
This one quote particularly stood out - 'Faith is knowing that your on a team, even when you don't know who the other players are'
You can listen to this insightful conversation on Spotify, or check out Sinek's new book, The Infinite Game. My copy is in the post!
KILLIAN JORNET ON STOKELY
Brought to you by the host himself: Majell
After time spent sharing dorm rooms with Kilian and seeing him act as one of the most humble but talented athletes in the sport of trail running, I was always eager to create a space to talk with Kilian on Stokely and simply invite him to speak his thoughts about a range of life experiences and opportunities. His new foundation is also an obvious and major interest point we cover as it works towards the preservation of Mountain Environments.
You can catch this conversation between Majell & Killian on Stokely here.
'THIS IS FOR THE WILD' PODCAST, WITH DR JOHN FRANCIS
Listened to & loved by: Mariela
After bearing witness to the collision of two Standard Oil of California tankers in the San Francisco Bay which spilt nearly half a million gallon of crude oil, Dr. John Francis stopped using motorized vehicles, a commitment that lasted 22 years. Soon after he made this promise, he found himself arguing amongst friends and family about whether or not this act was worthwhile, could one person really make a difference? He quips that as a gift to his community, he decided to take a vow of silence, which lasted for 17 years.
This episode is a sweet and soothing reminder that even in these weird and difficult times, the things we do as individuals really do matter — because they inform the way we act as communities, and as movements. And sometimes, we can only find the clarity of what that looks like for each of us by sitting with silence.
You can listen on Spotify here or read the show notes here.
