We protect what we love
FRIDAY . 05 . 11 . 21 .
Hello lovely people, my name is Linda and I'm super excited to be hosting this week's For Wild Places newsletter! ๐๐ป
I moved to beautiful Australia (from Germany) from just after Christmas 2016 and, since then, have fallen absolutely in love with the wild places on this side of the globe. I've since spent a lot of time down the Surf Coast, slowly learning to handle the waves both swimming and surfing, and appreciating the incredible coast both hiking and running.
Growing up in Germany and moving around Europe and the US I have been fortunate to experience different types of landscapes. These experiences and my love for nature and animals have given me a deep appreciation of how beautiful our world is and I want to do what I can to protect it.
Since joining For Wild Places as a graphic designer in June, I have learned so much about the trail running community and the efforts going into protecting trails, nature and people. It is really amazing to me how much of a difference an organisation can make and I am super grateful that I am able to help bring awareness and inform people by creating visuals and illustrations.
MY INTERNATIONAL ADVENTURE RECOMMENDATION
Kayaking the cliffs and caves in the Algarve, Portugal
Probably one of my favourite adventures was kayaking the cliffs and caves in the Algarve just before Covid started. My picture of the Benagil cave really doesnโt do it justice! Now that the lockdownโs finally over this weekend Iโm really looking forward to getting out of the city again and get to my list of trails and overnight hikes Iโve been collecting! Hereโs a few high up on my list:
- Mt Cobbler (a baby one as my first overnight hike!)
- Walhalla to Mt Baw Baw
- Lake Tali Karng Hidden Lake Circuit
- The Koolmoon Creek Track in the Misty Mountains in Queensland
WHAT I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO
The Lineup with Dave Prodan
Being a passionate surf super novice and just new to the world of surfing as a whole I've learned so much and found a bunch of other reading and listening material from this insightful and fun podcast.
My recommendation for a really interesting episode is EP 80 with Keala Kennelly about equality in women's surfing.
WHAT I'VE BEEN READING
Get out of your mind and into your life, by Steven Hayes.
I love yoga and meditation and have been getting more into mindfulness in recent years. I find that it really helps in grounding yourself and making the mental space to enjoy your passions in life, be it exercising, creating, or spending time with loved ones. A good friend recommended this book just this past weekend actually and I have been loving it! Insightful read and Iโd recommend it so far.
STAY TUNED FOR NEXT WEEK
Next week's newsletter will be hosted by Jodi.
Until then, have a fabulous weekend and we hope you spend it with loved ones and exploring those wild places you love to visit.
