FRIDAY . 22 . 10 . 21 .

Good morning wonderful people and happy Friday (aka, Spring Summit eve)! Spoiler alert: we have an epic weekend planned for you.

From now until 8am tomorrow, when you can tune into some morning meditation and pre-run pilates, you'll be hearing from one of the newest members of the (growing) FWP team, Claudia.

Hi, My name is Claudia and I am super thrilled to be hosting this week's FWP newsletter!

I grew up on the lovely Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, with endless beaches and an abundance of nature to explore at my doorstep. I also love animals, painting and cooking (mainly baking sweet things)!

The connection I have built with the natural environment from a young age, I feel has allowed me to develop an awareness of not only the places local to me, but of all environments and the importance of preserving and doing whatever we can to look after them.

Since discovering For Wild Places and joining the brilliant, hardworking team as a graphic designer, I feel as though it has intensified my curiosity in trail running and given me an insight into how much of a positive impact communities and organisations like this can make!

WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING

The Razorback Trail and Mount Feathertop walk

In February of this year, I did the Razorback Trail and Mount Feathertop hike. It was my first overnight hike with a pack and I absolutely loved it! I hope to do a lot more now that lockdown is over and explore more of what this amazing country has to offer!

WHAT I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO

Grounded with Louis Theroux

Hearing Louis Theroux chat to high profile people about anything and everything has been my most recent great podcast finds.

I love that he can bring a sense of warmth and comedy to any topic of conversation.

WHAT I'VE BEEN READING

Dessert Person, by Claire Saffitz

Claire is my baking hero and since getting this book for my birthday early this year I havenโ€™t put it down. Her recipe for croissants has allowed me to master them!

Elanor here - I volunteer as tribute for quality assurance checking the croissants. Funniest quote in the linked Youtube video "here is your original pastry, it kind of looks like a cauliflower" ๐Ÿ˜‚..

Claudia is one of two amazing graphic designers who have worked on the revised FWP logo and the epic graphics for our Spring Summit. You'll be hearing from graphic designer #2 (and generally amazing human) Linda, in a couple of weeks time.

SPRING SUMMIT 2021: REST & RESET

In case you've recently been having a digital detox and missed our recent communications, we are hosting a a weekend of connection, education and inspiration via a Spring Summit. The goal of the event is to provide the trail and outdoor community with some distraction and motivation during these unusual and challenging times, and give people the positivity and strength to continue being kind and caring custodians for wild, wonderful places.

Over two days, join the FWP team for a range of workshops, conversations, movement sessions and films with a slew of familiar faces, including Beau Miles, Lucy Bartholomew, Milly Young and Max Romey.

All the sessions will be available live (and post event), and are designed to make the most of your weekend routine, with pre-run warm ups, creative mornings and relaxed, entertaining evenings.

Spring Summit is a ticketed event, with all proceeds going towards For Wild Places - so we can continue uniting the outdoors community to preserve the places we play in. Tickets range from AU$15 - $30 and are available now via Humanitix.

For more info on session times and guests, RSVP to the Facebook event.
