FRIDAY 02.06.2023.

Happy Friday friends, and welcome to winter! We hope you're keeping cosy in the winter winds and chilly mornings. This morning we kicked off CAMP FWP at the top of Little Mt Higginbotham, surrounded by a cloud inversion and fairy floss-coloured skies.

It's truly wonderful to finally have the first CAMP FWP underway, with Shane, Flick, Hilary, Liz and myself coming together to welcome campers to the Victorian High Country, and explore Gunaikurnai, Taungurung and Jaithmathang country.

In this week's newsletter, we're bringing you some thoughts from the early stages of CAMP, and introducing Jake Fedorowski, our June Trail Chat guest.

Enjoy, and stay tuned for more from camp next week!

CAMP FWP

This week's newsletter is being written from Gunaikurnai, Taungurung and Jaithmathang country (Langi Taan Lodge, Mount Hotham, VIC). The team have spent the morning being inspired by Calumn Hockey - 2023 Wildlife photographer of the year - learning about how he conflates his passion for photography with advocating for the planet. We got to learn about how his passion for conservation photography was sparked by the 2019/20 fires that devastated over 2 million hectares of Australia.

We (21 of us) also just walked in from a run/hike, and we followed the undulating Cobungra Ditch trail. I'm very excited about this afternoon's guest presenter - Lou Clifton. No idea what she will be talking about, but with a background in bouldering and a career with NSW Parks and Wildlife Services (as well as being one of Australia's best ultra-runners) I have no doubt that it will be engaging.

We'll bring you a lot more of this next week. For now, we'll leave you with some first impressions from participants.

"A handful of wonderful conversations out on the morning run" - Myles

"Everyone is super open and friendly, and it seems like we all share some common values. It's a beautiful location - snow-capped mountains. What more could you want." -Bridget

TRAIL CHAT #14

with Jake Fedorowski (they/them)

Jake created the guide to non-binary inclusion in running and is the vice president of Seattle Frontrunners - an LGBTQIA+ running and walking club. They have consulted for major marathons, including the Chicago Marathon, and founded Run Beyond (RUN++) - a community for non-binary athletes to exist, participate, advocate and represent.

This trail chat will take place on Thursday 15th June at 12pm - a perfect 'lunch and learn' to tune into. We hope to see you there. RSVP here.

NEXT WEEK

Next week's newsletter will be dedicated to FWP camp. We can't wait to share our adventures!

And as always, thank you for taking the time for wild places.
