Expat Money Literacy Program 2.0 - Support Our Charity of Choice

A couple of days ago, I told you about our year-end project for the nonprofit where I sit on the board of directors, Ten Eighteen Uganda. I’m so excited about this year's project!

In 2021, our Expat Money community raised over $8,000 to launch and fund a Literacy program for teen moms in Uganda’s largest slum. It’s been a huge success!

We’ve got 60 girls who can read, write, speak English, and do basic math – I can’t believe how fast they learn!

Since teen girls are at the bottom of society in the slum, most never go to school. That means there are thousands more girls who are illiterate, and 1018 is committed to helping as many as possible.

For 2023, we’re going to launch Literacy 2.0! We’ll move the program to a separate building, expand our capacity to more teachers and classes, furnish it, pay for all the supplies and materials, fund security and cook a meal every day for the girls – all for $15,800!

Lit 2.0 will reach 60 girls a term or 180 girls a year – triple what we could do in 2022. I can’t wait to see it in action!

We have officially launched the fundraiser and have a dedicated portal for the Expat Money Community. The whole budget will be there, and my partner at 1018, Jennings Wright, will be happy to answer any questions you have.

100% of the funds we raise go to the program – that’s 1018’s philosophy for all donations, by the way.

Hope I can count on your support,
