Help Take 180 Girls Through Our Literacy Program In 2023

Dec 01, 2022 11:26 am

You all know that I struggled a lot in school, eventually dropping out at 15, and I had to discover my own way of learning.

So literacy is a big deal to me, which is why I am so proud of the project that this community funded to bring literacy to our teen moms and girls at Ten Eighteen Uganda in 2021.

So far, we’ve had 60 girls in the program, and they’ve learned to read, write, speak English, and do basic math. They’ve also learned problem-solving and creativity.

They love to be in videos showing off their language skills (check out 1018’s social media).

What better gift can we give these girls from Uganda’s largest slum?

For our 2022 project, we will be funding Ten Eighteen Uganda’s LITERACY 2.0:

By expanding the Literacy program into a separate location from Touch the Slum, we will be able to have bigger and more classes going each term. That means we’ll be able to bring literacy to 60 girls per term instead of 60 girls per year – amazing!

My goal for the Expat Money Community is that we raise at least $15,800. This will launch the new project and fund it for the entire year of 2023.

Rent, salaries, furniture, equipment, books, supplies, electricity, security, lunch every day… For a whole year for 180 girls.

We are launching the fundraiser today, and my hope is by December 10th, when we do our Annual Expat Money Christmas Party, we will have the entire project funded (if you are a client and didn't get an invite, please email me directly).

Last year we raised over $8,000 in one day, so I know I can count on you to jump in and help.

We have a dedicated link for our community to donate, which is fast and easy. 100% goes to the project, and Ten Eighteen Uganda is a 501c3, so there are tax advantages if you’re in the US, too.

Hope I can count on your for this important project, speak soon,

PS. For those of you who don't know, 1018 Uganda is our charity of choice at Expat Money. I sit on the board of directors for this non-profit, and 100% of donations go towards helping the girls in Uganda. I don't take a salary from my position at 1018, and I donate my own time and money to these projects. It's a project I am very passionate about, and I appreciate your support a lot.
