Eyes and ears everywhere… and friends in the right places

Hey guys, Mikkel here,

I was speaking with some of my partners in Colombia this week, and I want to share something they sent me because I think it says a lot about where the country may be heading.

They lead a prominent family office in Colombia, deeply understand the local market, and have helped us identify and structure real hard-asset opportunities for members of the Expat Money community over the years.

Here is what they wrote me:

“The following days will be very volatile, with the first round of presidential elections taking place this weekend, so the COP might continue to gain value since, according to most polls, it seems like the candidate from the right (Abelardo de La Espriella) is the most likely to win.”

Now, to be clear, this is not “currency speculation” advice, and I am NOT encouraging anyone to go start trading futures to clear a quick buck.

I am purely sharing a (well-informed) opinion from people I happen to trust deeply about potential currency fluctuations, as it is a solid indicator for those of us with investment positions in the country.

Markets respond to direction, confidence and in this specific case, the possibility that a new investment-friendly, business-friendly, right-leaning government may be taking power soon.

Colombia is one of the most important countries in Latin America; it has major cities, tremendous natural resources, a massive domestic market, an educated workforce, serious agricultural capacity, a world-class lifestyle appeal, and some incredibly lucrative real estate opportunities, I must add.

…but like many countries with real upside, Colombia’s story is not simple.

The opportunity is there, but the problem has often been the trajectory.

When investors look at Colombia, they often hit a snag… that being “where is the country going”?

A country can be ripe with opportunity and boast strong fundamentals, yet still become difficult to invest in if the government in power is hostile toward capital (and capitalism).

That is why this current election matters so much.

If we get our way (meaning Abelardo de La Espriella takes power), it will be a major indicator that Colombia's trajectory is heading in the right direction.

…the same direction that I have been predicting for years about Latin America’s general trend away from its socialist past and toward a more pro-freedom, pro-business future…

I don’t have magic predictive powers like Nostradamus…

...but I do keep an incredible circle of smart people around me, and I keep my eyes and ears open at all times.

The next few days may be “volatile”, but the Colombian peso may continue strengthening if markets believe the country is moving toward a more right-leaning, pro-business direction.

…more on Colombia in the coming months.

I just wanted to let you guys know that, despite not discussing our plans for Colombia much in recent months, we are thoroughly invested in the country and will be sharing some exciting updates with you shortly.

Speak soon,

Mikkel

PS. This is why I spend so much time building relationships with trusted partners on the ground. This is one of the many, many ways I stay ahead of the curve and am able to serve our community with insights that “others” won’t publish until the implications are played out. Hub members get these types of updates frequently via my “emergency briefings”. All the details about The Hub, and how to join, can be found here: ExpatMoney.com/Go

PPS. Tomorrow is the big day. I am hosting a live presentation to make a very special announcement about something that has been in the works for the past 2+ years (it is going to be a game-changer for our community). If you haven’t done so already, register to join me live for the presentation by clicking this highlighted blue text here right now.
