DAY 5 - Mindfulness

image

Happy Day FIVE:

(And apologies - I sent the test to myself and then didn't hit send on this one!)

Mindfulness is an individual practice, and I compare it to exercise. We have to do it again and again to see results. I have two meditation apps - Deepak Chopra and his teachers have been part of my practice for over 15 years, and my go-to recommendation is always Insight Timer - where I have curated healthy six playlists that are shared in the portal and on What's App.

Similar when you hear, "If you don't make time for health, you will have to make time for illness" - I would extend it to, "If you don't make time for mindfulness, you will scurry away time."

What do I mean by that?

We all go into though spirals in our head. Something doesn't go right at work and we spin off; someone close to you says something that upsets you and you hold onto it for days; you feel "fat" and berate yourself when, once again, you have no "willpower" over your eating.

This gets us nowhere, and we all know that.

For the next six weeks I would love you to focus on making meditation or some form of mindfulness a part of your morning routine. 5 minutes. That's it - if you can do more, amazing. What you are doing is building neural-pathways that will allow you to Practice the Pause.

I often say "Practice the Pause" with emotional eating - which we will dive into. The Healthy Six rule of Emotional eating is simply mindfulness: If you find yourself standing at the fridge, about to eat something that is outside your H6 plan, pause. Set a timer for six minutes. If you want to have the food in six minutes, go for a walk. If you then still want it, eat the damn thing.

We have to be intentional with healthy eating AND with our treats; we have to be intentional with sneaking in 5 minutes of arms rather than doing nothing.

That's it. And, of course, compassion. Bring self-compassion to this program and yourself. The building blocks of The Healthy Six are solid. Find the ground.
