This was a big story a few weeks ago:
How when we feel lonely, we eat "rubbish" food.
It made headlines in the pandemic too - left to our socially isolated lives, we put ate 20-25% more "crap" than usual. Loneliness, social isolation and emotional eating go hand in hand.
But there are a whole host of emotions with emotional eating - bored / stressed / anxious. Then we flip the switch and find joy, happiness and celebration - these are emotional eating patterns, too.
I believe it comes down to mindfulness with our eating. Sometimes, it is perfectly OK to mindfully eat crap (Theme Park Visits anyone?) But if we want to be healthier, to choose an anti-inflammatory diet that sets us up for less bloating, and more weight loss, we have to be mindful when we are sad, depressed, bored or anxious.
And we don't want to move away from the feelings. Sometimes it is important to sit with them, and not try to fill the void.
Today, a former student reached out to me and asked me how I had gotten through mum dying. She had just lost someone and is deep in the grief trench. I offered my simple advice: Be patient with yourself, allow yourself to cry, lean on your loved ones, and....of course....exercise
What I didn't talk about, but should have, is nourishing her body and her soul. After my mum died, I stopped eating for a while. I just couldn't. The grief was so penetrating. And turned around and started eating too many cookies / brownies / baked goods.
Sugar had always been my comfort food.
And then I did a powerful Healthy Six, and remembered nourishing myself.
When we eat healthy, fresh and vibrant food we feel better. This is why Meal Prep is so essential, and why you you get through the process of the Healthy Six and get to an 80/20 way of life.
Food is one of my passions. Nourishing myself is self-care.
Nourish yourselves, my loves
NOW....
Probiotics!
Here is a list of great foods you should be eating for gut health. Probiotics and prebiotics have powerful components to shift the lining of your gut. I highly recommend adding kimchi or sauerkraut to your salads this week, and also having Kefir Smoothies! Recipes below!

BANDS CLASS TODAY:
We are the sum of our choices. Today I am choosing meal prep, organization, and time for me to slow down.
