Between the Pages

Hi

So far so good for the new year. Can you believe, we are two-weeks in already? I have been busy working on a manuscript titled Unfinished Business in Sandy Bay, part of the new Sandy Bay Series. I thought I would finish the last chapter today, but as I wrote, I realised that there is still another chapter to go. That will be tomorrow's task.

If you read my author bio in the back of any of my books, you'll note the reference to a black and white cat who hangs around while I'm writing. That's Iris. She mostly sleeps through the day, but in the evening when I am trying to work, she starts demanding attention. The demand for head-pats also starts around five am, but that's another story.

Iris joined the household recently as a rescue cat. Here she is, supervising my writing time.

Iris. Her white whiskers are so cute.

Those of you who have been receiving my newsletter for a while have followed the two-year progress as my current house has been both renovated and extended. It was challenging at times, particularly as I had to make do during the partial demolition and reno work with no kitchen and a portable bathroom.

The interior is 99.9% finished now, and although there is still a bit to do outside, and a lot of work to do in establishing a 'garden', I at least have a paved area at one side of the house where I can leave potted vegetables with enough but not too much extreme sun. My summer tomatoes, eggplants and herbs are doing nicely.

I have some big troughs on order for along here and will combine those with trellising over the fence.

Besides writing, I have also attended my first writing workshop for the year. It was a great day, with fellow writers coming from around Australia to share experiences and ideas. It was held at a beachside hotel in Glenelg, South Australia. With a summer view like this, the location was a winner.

Hard to comprehend the snow and freezing weather that has been occurring in other parts of the world.

Melanie

"I take a few deep breaths before I leave the cubicle. I hurry out, only to run right into someone. The air is knocked out of me as they grab me. I look up and everything seems to stop.

Oh God. Jason Ford."

He’s her hot billionaire boss with his business on the line.

Melanie

Claire smirks. “Be careful going back down, Melanie. That fire escape is rather… unstable.”

I’m happy to get off the roof. I’ve said what I needed to say. I turn to find the fire escape directly behind me. Relieved, I reach for the ladder.

Then I feel someone shove me from behind...

My mind starts racing. The image of my mother on her deathbed flashes in front of my eyes...I promised her this. I can’t live with such a failure on my conscience.I wish Melanie was by my side. I need her

Melanie

Jason is already gone. The door slams shut behind him. Now I’m left sitting on his couch, alone.

Feeling like a discarded piece of trash.

Just when I thought my life was starting to turn around

And as for Claire...I wish I had the strength to deal with her. I’m afraid I won’t be able to stop her before it gets too far…

When a strange call from Jason's top investor throws a wrench in his most important project, his confidence is put to the test.
