Hi ,
I hope you enjoyed the stress management strategies I shared in the last newsletter linking to my blog (there are a number of articles on there covering all kinds of topics - please enjoy the free resource).
I mentioned I relocated to Charlotte, NC in August and started a new job, promising to give you an update on what's next for us in this community ...
What is Dr. Eddie doing now?
I am now the Chief Sports Psychologist at Atrium Heath in Charlotte, NC serving the Charlotte Football Club of Major League Soccer, the 23XI Racing Team (Michale Jordan and Denny Hamlin's NASCAR Team), and the athletes of Queens University of Charlotte.
It is a busy and exciting time as both the 45 Car and Charlotte FC are in the playoffs now!
Are you taking new private (virtual) clients?
Unfortunately not given my new responsibilities.
For my previous clients, however, if just 1-2 sessions are needed to review work we've done together in the past, we can make it work.
If you are in Grand Rapids, MI and seeking help, I have 4 options for you:
- Dr. Nicole Marganti. She is a sport psychologist that I’ve collaborated with in the past and trust her to do a good job. She is at 616-202-6484 nicolemarganti@groundedingrowthgr.com, www.groundedingrowthgr.com.
- Amanda Carfagnini is a clinical social worker in the Grand Rapids area with a small private practice, Speak;Easy Mental Wellness. I do not know her personally. She is a retired athlete and recently got her Sport Social Work Certificate. Here is her Psychology Today profile and contact info
- For mental training (not psychotherapy) I recommend my Success Stories Community. This is a very cost-effective option for athletes to build the mental skills necessary to handle the stress of sport and life. It includes on-demand video training and practice assignments to develop mental skills at the athletes own rate and pace. The online only package is just $49/month and there is an option to add monthly meetings for individual coaching - so if you still want to consult with me, this is the way to do it. Athletes can register here. (Reminder, this is mental training, not psychotherapy, and is not covered by insurance).
- The Association for Applied Sport Psychology has a directory of Certified Mental Performance Consultants throughout the country. You can look in the provider profiles to see who is licensed for mental health issues and who is available for mental training only. Some also do virtual.
How about speaking engagements and workshops?
Yes, I am still available for speaking both in person and virtually (for example, I am presenting at the Association for Applied Sport Psychology in late October).
Send me an email at dreddie@dreddieoconnor.com with the dates and description of your event and we create a package to meet your organizations needs together.
What about this newsletter, social media and your blog?
I'm going to have to step back from these activities as I serve Charlotte FC, 23XI and Queens University and grow the sport psychology resources available to these athletes and more in the greater Charlotte area.
So this will be my last newsletter. I won't be adding more to my blog, and my social media posts will be infrequent. I'll keep the accounts up and encourage you to enjoy the resources already on there, particularly my Mental Toughness in 60 Seconds video series on YouTube.
So, with gratitude ...
... I thank you all for your trust over the years. I've enjoyed helping you and/or your kids through social media, in person, at a workshop, and through this newsletter.
I feel blessed to be a sport psychologist and help people overcome their obstacles to excellence. I'm excited to continue this mission in Charlotte and wish you the best in the next chapter of your life as well.
Thanks again for being a part of this excellence community,
Dr Eddie
