Hi,

One thing all athletes go through is pain.

But what pain is safe to feel, and what pain signals injury?

And what about the pain of rehabilitation after an injury?

I sit down with Dr. Les Podlog, a specialist in the psychology of sport injury and discuss Pain and rehabilitation with him on his Mettle Minds podcast.

Enjoy it below (with a couple other updates)

Best,

Dr. Eddie

From Dr. Les Podlog's podcast, "Mettle Minds" ...

"Dr. O’Connor addresses the prevailing belief that positive thinking is a prerequisite for effective performance and that negative thoughts and emotions are inherently counterproductive. Rather, in his work with performers, he normalizes the fact that worries, fears and apprehension are inherent to the human experience and are an expression of what one cares about. He highlights the importance of one’s response to thoughts and emotions and the importance of being intentional about whether one’s actions bring the individual closer to or further away from valued aspirations.

Finally, Dr. O’Connor suggests the benefit of applying an athlete mindset to rehabilitation and highlights excellent pain management strategies."

Meanwhile, in Atlanta

Just wanted to share with you a picture from my presentation this week.

“How to Succeed. No. Matter. What.” was … a success 😂

Thanks so much to SCP Health for inviting me to present to over 400 physicians and hospital decision makers at their Medical Leadership Conference.

Here I am teaching the "Tug of War with a Monster" metaphor to illustrate how your problem isn't the problem, but its your struggle to control the problem that is the problem in your performance.

I do enjoy this part of my mission. The impact of speaking to larger groups excites me … and then the ripple effect of who they can bless with the information going forward … so awesome 😊
