Parenting Interview & Help with Injury
Mar 09, 2023 7:40 pm
Hello again,
Many thanks to the Sports Project for having me on again, this time to talk about the challenges of sport parenting. I enjoy these interviews because of the natural conversation and questions that come up allowing us to expand on the posts you may have recently seen.
And then I share about my philosophy of helping athletes with injuries.
Best wishes,
Dr. Eddie

On this episode of The Sports Project, Steve and I discuss the best conversations you can have with your athletic kids to build confidence and reduce their anxiety.
Specifically:
- Let them know you are disappointed for them when they lose or make a mistake, but not in them.
- Remind them they don't have to "pay you back." You are investing time and money into their experience, not for a particular outcome.
- Avoid the dreaded "car ride home" conversation, and
- Treat them the same after both wins and losses. Don't let your affection be influenced by outcomes.
In these ways you will show your children unconditional love and acceptance that decreases the pressure they can feel to please you.

I've had the recent opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Van Gelder and bring his Human Rehabilitation Framework (HRF) to the CSIPS this upcoming weekend.
What is great about the HRF is the emphasis on treatment plans that take the best protocols and theories and adopt them into individualized treatment plans unique to each client. In this keynote, I've worked with Leonard on applying this to athletic injuries.
I highly recommend their Physical Therapy staff at https://dmrmove.com/ ... and reach out to me for help with anxiety about your injury and to return to play.
Let's get you back in the game as quick and as safely as possible.
