Stop saying you're giving 110% ... You're not
Jul 30, 2021 12:03 am
Happy Thursday,
This week has had a lot of my high achievers feeling pretty good about their effort. I've heard them say "I've been giving it 110%" and that scared me. I explain why below.
And if you do want to have more energy, give more in your workouts, focus better, and improve your mood and productivity - the Sleep Your Way to the Top workshop is next week.
Make today a great one,
Dr. Eddie
Stop Trying to Be Positive
Listen, I know you’re working hard. But stop with the “I give 110%.”
You’re not even close to 100%.
100% would have you collapse at the end of a workout in literal exhaustion. And you aren’t doing that. (Nor should you, let’s train smart.)
But telling yourself that you’re giving 100 or 110% is tricking you into thinking you have no more to give. And that’s dangerous.
You’ve just put a ceiling on your potential! You’ve just created a barrier to giving more, going faster, enduring more.
If you think you’re giving it everything, you have nothing left to give. And you plateau.
But you DO have more to give. You can push. You can grow … IF you realize you have more in you.
So, please, forget the ego boost of saying you gave it your all. Yeah, that feels great - but with respect to you and to your sport - you probably left something on the table.
Respect how hard “hard work” is.
If you want help digging deep and improving your effort, I'm available for 1:1 consulations - info here.
