Hello again

Did you know that sometimes positive thinking and imagining our dreams can actually undermine our motivation and sabotage our actions to achieve them?

It's true!

Read below about how to keep going in pursuit of your dreams with the frustration that you aren't there yet ... and a quick video on how developing mental toughness is an important step for consistency.

"Are We There Yet?"

Obstacle

You want to get “there.” Maybe you’ve been working on your goal long enough and you’re tired. You want the end result already! The championship, the starting position, the weight loss goal, the active lifestyle, the position, promotion, title or salary, the relationship. You want “it” bad and you don’t have it. You’re tired of working for it.

How to Overcome

First, I encourage you to settle into the reality that you really don’t have what you want. Then - rather than get distracted by the sadness, anxiety and yearning or trying to control and get rid of it - embrace it. Seriously. Cry, yell, take a few minutes and feel bad for yourself. You have every right to be frustrated. This sucks. Throw yourself a pity party and feel what you feel honestly and authentically.

Honoring your current pain clears an open space where the natural reaction becomes, “How do I move forward from here?”

What is the problem right in front of you to solve today? What is the one next best step you need to take to move just a little bit closer to getting “there” today?

Please realize that whatever excellence you are chasing shouldn’t be easy. Excellence is rare because it is so hard to achieve. You get to decide if the effort is worth it. So honestly consider this. Are you willing to do what it takes?

If not, that’s good. Now you know. Let that dream go and focus on something else.

But if it is worth the pain of working for it for another day, then respect the process and take an action step in that direction.

I promise, you will get there … if you keep working (especially when you don’t want to).

Why It's Impossible to Be Consistently at Your Peak

A peak, by definition, is an extraordinary performance above the rest. As we all have variability in performance, your peak will stand out. Please do not expect yourself to perform to this level consistently.

Mental toughness, on the other hand, you can demonstrate consistently. It is the ability to be better and more consistent than your opponent in remaining determined, focused, confident, and in-control under pressure.

You can train mental toughness.

Mental toughness helps you reach your peaks, and carries you between them.
